The Ira Hayes American Legion Post 84
came to the mission for a prayer service
in honor of Cpl Ira Hayes.
Cpl Hayes was one of the six men
to raise the flag on Iwo Jima.
Cpl Hayes lived just down the road from
St. Peter Indian Mission.
The soldiers began with a prayer for all veterans
followed by a twenty-one gun salute.
The service was concluded with the playing of Taps.
Each Sister received a gun shell casing from the
twenty-one gun salute.
These were placed at the grave of
Private Lucero.
The day came to a close with a
Memorial Day Dinner!
Thank you to all you have served and are
currently serving in the Armed Forces!
Happy Memorial Day!
God Bless YOU!
